“Tomorrow march down against them. They will be climbing up by the Pass of Ziz, and you will find them at the end of the gorge in the Desert of Jeruel. You will not have to fight this battle. Take up your positions; stand firm and see the deliverance the LORD will give you, Judah and Jerusalem. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged. Go out to face them tomorrow, and the LORD will be with you.’” 2 Chronicles 20:16-17 NIV
Wow. How could this chapter get any better?!!
2 Chronicles is so rich in God's promises to his people, assuring them that He will go before them and fight the battles for them (and for us). Through observation, we have already seen how vital it is when the enemy threatens us that we take his threat seriously. We are told to pray and fast and call in the troops (our prayer warriors). We are to use our mighty weapons of worship and prayer, and always remember the Lord and his faithfulness when he delivered us in the past. We are reminded of his promises to continue to save and deliver his children, and we speak those promises from His word back to him.
Now, we take all that faith he has given us and we take action!
This is where the battle against our faith heats up. As the battle intensifies, our enemy seeks to defeat us, but God wants to prove us!
Something very critical took place in these verses. Let’s take a closer look.
"Tomorrow, march down against them!" (vs. 16)
They were called to action, but not the action they would expect. Instead of being told to fight them, God's people were told to stand in faith and watch and see the deliverance of the Lord! They were told they would not have to fight! God would win this battle for them! They only needed to stand firm!
The Spirit of the living God had come upon Jahaziel, a Levite, who prophesied over God's people. The Levites were the worship leaders! God spoke through him as they worshipped the Lord. They received the word of God spoken to them and acted in faith.
I can only imagine what it must have been like the night before as the people waited anxiously for sunrise to march to where the Lord led them knowing they were not to lift a finger to defend themselves.
The Deliverance of the Lord
There are times when we believe our battles will surely destroy us. We cannot see an end in sight. We are weary and exhausted. Maybe we are fighting the wrong battle, maybe we are fighting with the wrong weapons, or maybe, this battle is not ours to fight.
Our Lord and our Protector never intended for us to go into battle without him. He has always had a battle plan laid out ahead of time. We only need to listen to his voice and remember that he has already won the battle for us.
I believe this is a word for each of us. When we let go of our loved ones who are struggling and we feel we are handing them over to the enemy for their destruction, we have to believe God is fighting this battle for us. Each of you has been given words from the Lord, scriptures and promises, visions and prophecies. Receive those words from the Lord. Speak them back to him. Stand on those promises he gave you. The enemy will never, ever have the victory. You can praise the Lord and trust Him. The battle and the victory belong to Him. You only have to stand firm and see Him work.
Dear Jesus,
We admit we don’t always know what to do. We look to man for wisdom that only comes from You. Help us to learn to listen, trust, and obey you. We give you praise as we keep our eye on you.
Amen.
Beautiful Blessings, Dawn
